A dress for a sweetheart

I have been itching to make a dress for my little neice and after finding inspiration on Make it and Love it I went and bought a white tshirt to start the dress.  It was so much fun.

Lara and I found this material when we were helping to declutter a room at my mom-in-law's house.  It seems it was her mother's material - so you could say that this is vintage material.

Neighbours

This morning, about 15 minutes before it was time to leave for school, I realised that I had forgotten my gate keys in Logan's car.  Logan was an hour away.  I managed to get Aidan over so that he could go to school.  I was able to watch him walk all the way.  Once he was inside I realised that he had left one of his bags by the gate.  I was barefoot and the little ones were inside so I couldn't run to take his bag to him.  My neighbours daughter arrived about this time.  She saw the ladder by the gate and stopped to ask me what was wrong.  I burst into tears and told her my sad story. She took the bag and drove to the school and gave the bag to Aidan.

At this time I decided that I would climb back over the gate.  It then hit me that I couldn't get the ladder over  to the side I was on.  Luckily a sweet young man stopped to help me and I could climb back over.

When I got inside I discovered that Jesse had climbed onto my bed.  As I was moaning at him he jumped too close to the edge and fell off the bed landing on the back of his head.  He was silent for about 10 seconds, got his breath back and proceeded to scream.  Just then my neighbour phoned to moan at me for not asking her for help.  She was so sweet and kind that I started crying all over again.

An hour later she phoned to ask me if I needed bread and milk and if she could fetch the children from school.  Then in the afternoon she called me to the wall with a huge box of fruit.

I am so blessed with good neighbours.

Wig

Aidan, Kyle and Orin got hold of some old cassettes that I was throwing away.  What a mess but they had lots of fun.

Home Maintenance

On Saturday I asked Kyle to clear the gutters for me and he called me to take a photo of his find.  I guess painting the walls should happen next.

Meringues

The 13th of January was Devra's birthday.  I decided to make meringues for her.  This is my favourite recipe and it really is very easy.

4 egg whites
115g castor sugar
115g icing sugar

Beat egg whites using mixer, until stiff.
Add caster sugar 1 tablespoon at a time until mixture is thick and glossy.
Slowly fold in icing sugar.  I put the mixer on very low and gradually add the icing sugar.
Spoon tablespoons of meringe onto baking paper.

Bake on 90 degrees centigrade for about 2 hours.
Steal a meringue every half hour or so (to check for readiness of course)

Watermelon Bust

Because Aidan  didn't have everyone around for his birthday I didn't make an extra large cake.  The family came around for watermelon on the 2nd of January.  Someone had the cool idea of putting the candles in the watermelon.  It worked so well and was perfect for a warm summer day.  The watermelon was deliciously sweet.

Aidan turns 7.

Aidan turns 7 today.  He has had a wonderful year.  Some highlights:

Aidan graduated from Grade R this year.

Father Christmas came to visit

He learnt to get on much better with his brothers.

Aidan decided he wanted to go to Spur for his birthday.  He was looking forward to it the whole week.
